The El Cajon City Council unanimously voted to appoint Planning Commissioner David Phillip “Phil” Ortiz to fill a vacant at-significant council seat.
The council chose Ortiz, at its assembly Tuesday evening, from a pool of 22 applicants for the seat. Ortiz will serve on the 5-member council by means of November 2020. In addition to his seat on the city’s Organizing Fee, which he will have to give up to serve on the council, Ortiz sits on the East County Chamber of Commerce Board and is the CEO of New Earth Vitality Specialists Inc.
Ortiz is replacing Ben Kalasho, who resigned in March owing to consistent pressure with the other customers of the council. Kalasho usually voted from council agenda goods that normally would have passed unanimously and mentioned in his resignation letter that he did not see where by he could be helpful.
“Although my time on the council has been educational, I felt I was continuously battling my colleagues on agenda goods and the general direction that my colleagues preferred for the town,” Kalasho wrote. “I brought ahead and advocated for several agenda products which seemed to tumble on deaf ears and experienced no other supporting votes.”
Kalasho also dealt with a number of authorized battles due to the fact staying elected to the council in 2016.
Ortiz is predicted to be present for the duration of the council’s following assembly, scheduled for May possibly 28.
