A guy who allegedly entered someone’s dwelling Tuesday afternoon in the Halfway district died soon after turning out to be unresponsive once officers handcuffed him.

The gentleman, who appeared to be in his 40s, entered a rear doorway of a household in the 2900 block of Hornet Way about 3:35 p.m., prompting a contact to 911 from a resident who noted the suspect was in the entrance of the house performing unusually, in accordance to San Diego Law enforcement Division Lt. Matt Dobbs.

An officer arrived and attempted to just take the gentleman into custody, but he resisted attempts to handcuff him, top to a struggle, Dobbs said.

Two a lot more officers arrived and “used a combination of bodily power and strikes to the arms to get the suspect handcuffed,” Dobbs said.

“The officers believed the suspect was demonstrating indicators of excited delirium and requested paramedics,” Dobbs reported. “As the paramedics began assessing the suspect’s situation, he turned unresponsive and life-preserving measures have been initiated.”

The man was taken to a clinic, wherever he was pronounced useless at 4:49 p.m., Dobbs mentioned.

“From the original witness interviews we have uncovered the suspect evidently broke down the rear fence to the home and entered an open doorway,” Dobbs said. “Two grownup residents have been upstairs, while their 9-year-aged daughter was asleep downstairs.

“The male resident arrived downstairs when he heard the commotion and confronted the suspect. A battle ensued and the resident punched the suspect twice, rendering him unconscious. The resident kicked the suspect, who woke up and ran out of the property and once more commenced exhibiting bizarre behavior until the law enforcement arrived and the supplemental wrestle ensued. The resident and witnesses considered the suspect was under the impact of medications.”

Yet another resident experienced documented before that an individual was attempting to open doorways to homes in the 2900 block of Belknap Way, about a block from wherever the fatal confrontation took position, Dobbs reported.

The suspect was not straight away determined.
