LOS ANGELES/TORONTO (UPI) — Joaquin Phoenix is set to be honored at the 2019 Toronto International Film Pageant with the event’s inaugural Tribute Actor Award.
Phoenix will obtain the award Sept. 9 during the TIFF Tribute Gala, a fundraiser that will help guidance festival programs.
The actor will also be present to boost Joker, which is premiering at the competition just before it comes in theaters Oct. 4. Phoenix portrays iconic Batman villain The Joker in the R-rated DC Comics drama from director Todd Phillips.
Phoenix is the 2nd Hollywood star established to be honored with the Tribute Actor Award together with Meryl Streep.
“Displaying equally raw instinct and consummate complex ability, Joaquin Phoenix is the entire actor, and 1 of the best in present-day cinema,” pageant co-head Cameron Bailey stated in a assertion.
“Over three decades, he has introduced a piercing reality to each individual groundbreaking position. TIFF is thrilled to be celebrating an artist of his caliber with this inaugural award.”
